My outings in the past two years
It was all fun during my stay in Salem for the past two years, we enjoyed much there (college days are always fun), just I want to share some of my outings when I was in Salem, so, here goes,
Kolli Hills - its different
It is near Rasipuram in Namakkal District. Just more than five hrs from salem. It has more hairpin bends than Ooty or Kodaikanal, around 75 bends. Kolli is famous for medicinal plants, black magic, Siddars and some fruits. When we had visited it a year back the place looked dry, no green covers like other hill stations. The main attraction here is the falls, which falls from good height. People come here with utensils and make their own food (even you can have liquor and enjoy). We went there with chicken briyani and had a gala time. To enjoy the sceneries it is better to travel in a bike.
Yercaud - yeah its poor man’s Ooty
For Salem people Yercaud is nothing, coz its nothing. The climate is not much cool, not a many attractive places to visit other than lake (boat house), view points, water falls (some times) etc. A better place for Sunday visits with your family if you are in and around Salem (strictly not to others).
When we visited Yeraud a native villager had confronted us with a question, “what for you came here, and what is here to see?” (A good question indeed!)
Hogenakkal - wanna see kaveri in full flow (depends on Karnataka)
Its better if u refer the previous post, Bid adieu to govt. college of engg., i tried much to give link but it was not working. So, go to last months archive and read the post titled Bid adieu....
Monkey falls - green cover
It’s near Pollachi, which is just 1 hr travel from Coimbatore. I along with two of my friends went there just a month back. Here too the main attraction (only attraction) is falls (small), better visit this on week days as it is crowded on Sundays. Aliyar dam is on the way, it has a good park and a motor boat ride in the reservoir (it had good amount of water when we visited).
It was drizzling throughout our visit on that day and the wayside places were greenish. Much relief and enjoyment for urban people guaranteed.

Where are they? (research in Tamil cinema -part II)
Applicable to people of Tamilnadu
They were giants, superstars, and created miracles in Tamil cinema industry but it was once upon a time, now they are nowhere.
I am talking about the (yester year) directors Backyaraj, Bharathiraja, Balachandar, T.Rajendar and Balumahendra.
Backyaraj : He was acclaimed as the best screenplay writer in India (even in Bollywood). I have watched (still watching) his ‘indru poi nalai vaa’ countless times, who can forget the famous dialogue, ‘ek gao me ek kissan rahta tha’ in that movie. But when was his last hit, I think it was ‘veetla vishenga’ and ‘oro ooril oru rajakumari’. The movies, which he directed afterwards faced worst debacles, they include ‘chokka thangam, vetiya madichu kattu, gnana pazam’ etc.
Bharathi Raja: No one can deny his ability of bringing the real Tamilnadu village in the screen, he had also made the critically acclaimed, ‘sigappu rojakkal’ (many say the recent movie ‘manmadan’ was based on this core) before many years. But what about his recent hits, it may be ‘kilakku seemaiyile’ which came around 8 years back, I think. His recent failures include ‘tajmahal, kangalal kaidu sei’ etc.
T Rajendar: More than his films, I like his music. He is not music genius or maestro, but he gives music, which you or me would like, its layman’s music enjoyed by laymen, even now, remix of his old song ‘en aasai maithiliye’ created a stir. But what about now, his recent films were run successfully – out of theatre. (Wait for his new venture – veerasami)
The list also includes K Balachandar, Balumahendra , .............
What happend to them, whether they lost their midas touch, no one knows, even they themselves don't.
