R K Narayan
There is so much written about him but everyone has their own views so here comes my views about this legend.I haven’t loved any English writing Indian authors (though my reading of English novels written by Indian authors are limited) like RK Narayan. May be its because of his writing style which is simple and plain English, may be because of the contents - day to day life, the hidden comical thing (which is there throughout his books), may be because you can relate the characters with somebody or even with yourself.
I haven’t read full collections of Narayan, because I want to keep something aside for future (still I have to read his famous ‘Guide’)
My favorite two books of RK Narayan out of the books I read of him are
* My days (his auto biography)
* English teacher (his semi autobiography)
In My days he has mentioned that while preparing for his graduation exam he sat overnight with his friend and prepared answers for the previous year question papers (could you believe that it was in 1930’s, don’t we do that even now)
Its pleasure to read his books while living at Mysore, coz that’s where he had written all his books. Though I’m living at Mysore for the past two years I haven’t seen his house which is located at Yadavgiri (I don’t know the exact address, heard that the house is dilapidated with no one living in that). I hope to see his house before moving out of Mysore!
